Centralia PA. is the victim of an underground mine fire that has been burning since 1962. All buildings have been condemed and taken over by eminent domain. A few people still live there and are fighting their loss of property.

Many of these are towns that went up during the "Gold Rush" and have since dried up as there's no longer any reason for people to live there.
