Actually, #1 is a very fortunate or lucky day.

There are many types of screw-on filters that screw on to the very end of lenses like this. If you look closely, you can see that this person had a filter on this lens this day, and it’s this filter that shattered, and the lens looks to be undamaged. Although, this is a cheapie lens, not professional, and obviously you always want to avoid smashing your camera into something or dropping it, still, it’s better to ruin a filter than a lens.
