Gone are the days of rusty lawnmowers and cobwebs—these outbuildings are tiny dreamspaces. Artist studios with skylights, reading nooks wrapped in ivy, coffee bars with vintage signage. Each shed rejects utility for soul, proving that magic often blooms not in grand halls, but in humble structures tucked behind garden gates, built for quiet joy.

Tuff Shed. Still need to add mini split (bought but not installed) Just finished paint, trim, and electrical which I hired out. Did insulation myself. It will be my office + golf simulator room very soon.

Shed to home office conversion I just finished.

All of the framing materials for this shed we salvaged from dumpsters in a new housing development. The only purchased materials were the shingles, windows and cement board siding. Total cost to build was around $1300.

Been working on my “man cave” shed for a few months now.

I built this shed myself back in 2018. A solid concrete foundation was the only way to go. The idea of putting pallets and loose gravel never even crossed my mind. This shed will outlast me. Do it right the first time y’all.

Phew! I built everything except the gravel/treated lumber base and I learned a lot. I’m a furniture maker by day (and thoroughly enjoyed making the door for this), but had never put up hardie board, cut a tile, or shingled a roof before. Roofing is a heck of thing.

It’s the first building I’ve built so I’m really happy with how it turned out. For now I’m just using it for storage but years down the line I plan on running electric and fully finishing the inside so I can be an office, gym, or whatever the next owner wants.

I'm very proud of my tiny shed.

My garden shed in winter.

Built my first shed for our 4 sheep. So far it's still standing. Ground is mostly clay and was quite sloped which made the build interesting.

I wanted a little more control over the design and build process and 2. Wanted to save a significant chunk of money by going DIY. Started in March and finished in September. Learned a lot along the way and luckily didn’t hit any major hiccups.

So I've been building this through the summer. Removed the old metal shed which was rusted and rotten. Leveled the ground, then gravel base and rebar. Had cement delivered. I grabbed lots of windows along with a skylight and doors from FB marketplace and designed around their sizes. Framed it up with a few friends.

I'm blessed to have had significant joys in my life. I did some MAN s**t and it feels good.

Finished this project this week after tearing down our old shed 6 weeks ago. Had help with some of it but chipped away at it slowly.

This build took about 7 or 8 weeks. This was a one man job ( with some tiny hands help from my son here and there) working on weekends and some weekday nights. I did have a solid week off work as well as 4 day long weekend that was all devoted to working on this physical/mental and emotional challenge. So happy to have this completed!

My husband built a deck and a Heartland Stratford shed late last summer, and as soon as it was finished we agreed the shed needed a mural rather than a slap of regular old paint. It took us a few weeks of back and forth to agree on the design and colours, and then I laid it all out in Illustrator to make transferring the design a bit easier.
