You wake up at the same time every morning, get dressed, go to work, come home, eat dinner, and go to sleep. Then you do it all over again the next day.
Most people don’t notice they’re stuck in “the grind” until something snaps, like a sudden wave of absolute exhaustion or a realization that their life feels like the movie Groundhog Day. But the moment your body rejects the routine is your opportunity to break out of autopilot.
If you’re feeling stuck in a loop, the following methods will help you break free.
1. Step out of your environment for a bit
The fastest way to break the daily grind is to physically remove yourself from it. It’s nearly impossible to recover from stress while you’re stuck in the environment creating that stress.
A total shift in your environment can jolt your nervous system out of survival mode and into peace and safety. That’s why even a simple escape, like renting a vacation home by the beach, can be the best reset you’ll ever experience. Research shows that spending time near the ocean significantly reduces stress hormones and gives the nervous system space to recalibrate.
Just listening to the sound of waves crashing against the shore can help your brain downshift into a state of rest and relaxation. And if the beach isn’t your thing, you might enjoy renting a cabin in the mountains for a weekend or attending a meditation retreat. It doesn’t matter what you choose as long as you find it relaxing. 6. Be selective with the information you consume
Avoid stressful content online, including news and social media feeds. These sources of information will drain you fast and keep you in a constant loop of stress. If anything truly important happens in the world that you must know about, someone in your life will tell you. Until then, take a break from the stress of information overload.
