I'm hungarian. And I've never seen any creatures like these above at Christmas-time. But actually it is told to children, if the were bad, the Krampusz will give them some Virgcs and they won't get any gifts from Santa. But they are not coming at christmas time, but at the 6th of December.

Im from Austria, and i know those Krampus Creatures very well

Here we have a day for st. Nikolaus which i think was the 6. dez , and on 7. dez is Krampus Day. On the Countryside there are big "krampus parades" in every village

In most christian familys on dez 6. there comes the Nikolaus and brings some gifts, and in the past kampus came with him. When I was a child is saw the Krampus 2 or 3 times in our house and every year on the parade.

Krampus is told to have one normal foot and one hoof, he takes the bad children with his basket to the forest and they never come again, also its told that he brings coal instead of apples and nuts.
