Benjamin Disraeli, renowned for his writing prowess, stated, "Fun is the purest form of enjoyment and the highest expression of life”. Fun experiences include activities that give us a sense of satisfaction and enable us to overcome our limits.
While participating in fun activities during my college years, I realized my stress levels would reduce, my creativity, communication skills, and concentration would improve, and my energy levels would go up.
These experiences include movie nights with friends, attending music performances together, and organizing game nights filled with laughter and friendly competition, among others.
College entertainment
Colleges have many students from diverse cultures and backgrounds which results in a wide variety of entertainment options for students to choose from. Here are some of the popular entertainment options available for students in college:
Karaoke nights: Karaoke nights are normally hosted in bars and special venues, and are mostly attended by students who enjoy singing regardless of their skill level. You can also attend just to listen to other people's performances.
Sports events: Students who are into sports such as basketball, football, soccer, and tennis, among others, can engage in friendly competitions to have fun, improve their skills, get into shape, and pass time.
Escape rooms: Students who love the thrill of adventure would benefit from the immersive experience of finding clues and solving problems within a specific period. Escape rooms also improve your creativity which can be helpful to students who write essays on platforms such as homework market.
Theme parties: These parties are normally hosted by students to celebrate certain milestones or just to let loose.
Engaging in activities, like taking nature walks, going hiking, or embarking on camping trips, has an impact on your well-being. It helps alleviate stress, promotes health, and boosts your ability to concentrate.
The range of entertainment choices for college students can vary depending on factors such as the location of your school and the prevailing interests among your peers. These factors determine the options you have, at hand. During my time some options such as escape rooms weren’t a thing. Below are some of my fun entertainment experiences during my college years:
Movie nights
I am a movie enthusiast. I enjoy various movie genres such as action, drama, autobiography, documentary, and comedy-based movies. Orinda Theatre is one of my favorite theaters because of its overall aesthetic appeal and the way it captures the mood of different movies.
One of my memorable theater experiences happened during the theatrical release of the Avengers End game, which left almost half of moviegoers feeling sad when the end credits rolled. It’s a magical feeling when strangers who share a common passion can instantly connect.
If you want fresh ideas on how to make an essay longer, watching movies and series would be a good place to start, since they engage the creative part of our minds. This would be beneficial for students who pursue social sciences.
Game nights
Thursday nights hold a special place in my heart till today. All our game nights were scheduled on Thursdays and featured a variety of games including card games, monopoly, chess, American draft, trivia games, video games, and charades. We played a total of four different games each night and created a table containing the total wins and losses of each player. We awarded three points to each win to find the overall winner at the end of the night.
One time, our friend Madisson, almost went a semester without a single win. On the last Thursday, she managed to secure a win in a thrilling round of trivia games, which made the room erupt in cheers. Finally, the underdog had managed to move up the table to secure the top spot.
Hosting game nights with your friends and loved ones is a good way to socialize and reduce academic pressure in college. Game nights can also improve your knowledge of historical events and enhance your communication skills.
Live music performance
I’ve attended multiple live performances but Drake’s live performance at Governors Ball, on June 5th, 2015, is hands down my favorite live music performance of all time. The live performance featured surprise guests like Future and ILoveMakonnen, which made the show more appealing. Drake's emotional lyrics on the album “If You're Reading This It's Too Late” connected with the audience on an individual level.
Live music performances encourage social interactions and a sense of community as well as provide a source of support for local artists. By attending live music performance events in college, you expand your social circle, increase your cultural awareness, and improve your mental health.
Balancing My entertainment and academic responsibilities
Finding a balance between enjoying the college experience and fulfilling responsibilities is crucial. Throughout my college journey, I developed strategies to stay on top of my coursework without sacrificing the enjoyment of being a college student. Here are some techniques I successfully employed to effectively manage my time.
Joining a study group: As a student, I joined multiple study groups to ensure that I covered all the coursework that I might have missed while at my entertainment events. Also, online platforms like Gina Wilson's answer keys assisted me in refreshing some of the algebra concepts that were in my coursework.
Creating a detailed schedule: There are some weeks on campus that I felt overwhelmed by the vast amount of coursework. Creating a schedule assisted me in allocating enough time for my academic studies while still being able to create time for movie nights, game nights, and live events.
Utilizing college resources: I utilized our college’s academic resources such as the library, online learning platform, and tutoring centers to stay up to date with the coursework. Our E-learning platform came in handy since it had many E-books that were relevant to my coursework.
Attending mentorship programs: As a freshman, I found effective study groups, and social clubs, and made relevant social connections through mentorship programs. Through mentorship programs, I adapted to campus life while still maintaining a clear academic goal.
Every institution has various programs that students can utilize to balance their academic and social life. The key is to create a consistent schedule to effectively utilize the resources on your campus to balance your social and academic life.
Conclusion
Movie nights, game nights, and live music performances were the highlight of my fun campus experiences. I managed to create new friends and memories, as well as release the academic pressure associated with campus students. Share some of your memorable campus experiences with us in the comments section.
