In return possession, Abdul-Jabbar converted only one free throw, but the ball, which does not lie, slipped away on the rebound from the hands of the Celtic's defenders.

What happened next, everyone knows. Magic Johnson received a pass on the left wing and, facing an overhanging Kevin McHale, went to the center. Right under Robert Parish and Larry Bird. Moments before the Big Trio took him in, the point guard released the ball into the sky in the old-fashioned manner he had seen from the legendary partner, and he dropped into the ring (107:106). Which does not underestimate the merits of Pettit. The "Dutchman" decided not to postpone the confrontation until the 7th match and showed himself in all his glory already in the 6th. This beauty was enough for 31 points in the first three quarters, 19 points against 21 for all other partners in the last, and a decisive shot in 15 seconds, which left the Celts no chance - 110:109, the Hawks won their only title, and Pettit repeated the finals record set by Bob Cousy in 53rd.
