This is an Osage Orange, or horse apple. It is not edible, however it is useful: Osage makes a good hedge row. Fill buckets with the fruit and top off with water. Let the fruit rot until it becomes a slurry. Dig a shallow trench where you want the hedge row, pour the slurry into the trench and cover
