What percentage of 2D Action Adventures games made from say 2000-2021 are better than The Legend of Zelda A Link to the past? 1%? 0.1%? 0.01%?

Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, etc, etc. Those were like the golden years of 2D video games, then most companies focused on graphics, skipping from 16-Bit to very blocky looking 64-Bit.

After that Microsoft/Sony had a “who has the more powerful console” race instead of focusing as much as they could on quality (obviously some games were still very high quality). It seems like it has taken until the late 2010s for 2D games to compete w/ early 90s 2D games again."

"It still kind of blows my mind that Wizard of Oz was made in 1939.

Like if you didn’t know better Wizard of Oz looks like it could have been made in the same year as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or something. In some ways some of the effects even look way better than children’s films which came way later.

And on a separate note while it is obviously dated with 1960s trappings like the fashions and the Soviet Union still existing, 2001: A Space Odyssey looks [email protected]#king great and still has probably one of the best and most realistic depictions of space travel ever committed to film.

Like people are still struggling to make movies that depict space travel in a way that looks as good and is as realistic, scientifically factual and believable as 2001 did over 50 years ago."
