For the most part I think the 2004 versions look much better - cleaner crisper and more colourful. Mind you there seem to be many things where effects where added simply for the sake of adding them.

Very neat comparison of how movie tech has evolved. I feel sorry for whoever had to find all these differences and then take a photo of them though.

Some of the pictures looked like photobombs! There is a lizard/dinosaur like creature that appears in most of the new photos...

The 2004 version was supposedly to allow Lucas to do things that he wanted to do the first time, but could not. Now lets see how they spin the BR version when it comes out... and yes I will buy it just like I did the others

Now I want to see the old version, too. Of course the colors are more beautiful in the 2004 version, but the 1977 has this charm of old fashioned special effects.

The folks at Red Letter Media said it best: nobody has the balls to tell George Lucas his ideas might not be well-advised. They treat him like he is infallible, and never challenge anything he decides he wants to do. Back in the 1970's and 1980's, this wasn't the case, and as a result, the Star Wars movies were well-developed, interesting, and engaging. The re-releases and prequels suffered badly from Lucas-can't-be-wrong syndrome.

Way to milk another $200 million from a 27 year old dead horse, George.

@: Governator, I sure did WTF, who cares... not me plus I'm pissed because Jimmy Johnson could have offered a better critique. Though he's a little more long winded,...he's right.
This post would be better off filled with the"History of Donkey Rides"
