Don’t open the shades during takeoff and landing. When it’s dark out, the lights are dimmed to help prepare for a possible emergency situation by allowing your eyes to adjust to the low light.
1
Avoid the tray tables. These are some of the dirtiest surfaces on the plane and only get cleaned once a day. How dirty, you ask? Think “people changing their baby’s dirty diapers” level.
2
Don’t order ice. The water on planes isn’t very clean so say no to ice.
3
Don’t flush the toilet while you’re on it. You might get sucked in!
Wait until takeoff to go to sleep. As the pressure increases it’s important pop your ears, which might not always happen if you’re already asleep.
4
Steer clear of fizzy drinks. Besides causing heartburn and gas, they can make you feel sluggish and dehydrate you. Stick to still water.
5
Don’t eat the eggs. It’s really hard to regulate the cooking on these so just wait until you land to get something more reliable.
Don’t take those free blankets. They’re hotbeds for germs and aren’t cleaned throughout the day.
Try to not touch the flush button. If you have to, make sure to wash your hands immediately after.
6
Refrain from taking pictures or videos. Apparently, some airlines actually prohibit it, but selfies are ok.
