For several years now, there has been a conspiracy theory claiming that singer Avril Lavigne died and was replaced by a doppelganger. The incident allegedly took place in 2003, and since then a clone named Melissa has taken Lavigne's place. In 2018, Lavigne finally decided to quell the rumor. During an interview with Australia's KISS 1065, the singer remarked, "Yeah, some people think I'm not the real me, which is so weird! Why do they even think that?"

According to some tabloid publications, the mention of Robbie's age meant that she couldn't have been more than 25 years old at the time. Perhaps because of this, rumors soon spread that Lohan once had a sister, her real twin, and that she was a murder victim. There were also claims that the rumor was orchestrated by the Disney movie studio just before the release of the twin movie with Lohan.
