1 How to Play Teen Patti: India’s Favorite Card Game

Teen Patti means three cards. It is a gambling game of Indian origin, also known as flush. It is almost identical to the British game three-card brag. An international 52 card pack is used. The cards rank in the usual order from ace high down to 2 low. Any reasonable number of players can take part in the game, but it is probably best played by 4 to 7 players.

Things to Consider Before Playing Teen Patti

Before playing, it is required for all players to agree on the minimum stake's value, which is called one unit. Everyone places this minimum stake in the pot, which is a collection of money in the centre of the table and the winner collects the contains of the pot. The dealers deal out three cards. Players then bet on who has the best three-card hand. Each player has the option to look at their 3-card hand before betting or to leave their cards face down on the table and play blind.

The Ranking of Hands

The ranking of the possible hands from high to low is described in the following:

• Trio or trail

These are three cards of the same rank. The best trio is three aces, and the lowest are three twos.

• Straight run

These are three consecutive cards of the same suit. These can be utilized in the run, which is the highest straight run. Next comes the Ace-King-Queen or the King-Queen-Jack and so on down to 4-3-2, which is the lowest. The 2-Ace-King is not considered a valid run.

• Normal run

These are three consecutive cards that might not be all of the same suits. The best normal run is the Ace-2-3, then the Ace-King-Queen, and then the King-Queen-Jack, and so on down to 4-3-2. Two-Ace-King is not a valid run.

• Color

These are any three cards of the same suit. When comparing two colors, compare the highest card if these are equal compare to the second. Compare to the lowest. The highest color is Ace-King-Jack, and the lowest is 5-3-2.

• Pair

These are two cards of comparable rank. Between 2 such hands, compare the first pair and then the odd card if these are equal. The best hand is, therefore, Ace-Ace-King and the lowest is 2-2-3.

• High card

These are card types that do not belong to any of the above types. Compare the highest card, first and second-highest, and then finally the lowest. The best hand of this type is the Ace-King-Jack of mixed suits, and the worst is 5-3-2.

Any hand of a higher type beats any hand of a lower type; for example, the lowest run is 4-3-2 beats the best color Ace-King-Jack.

The Process of Betting in Teen Patti

The player to the dealer's left takes the first turn and it continues with players taking turns in clockwise order around the table. Each player, in turn, can either put an additional bet into the pot to stay in or pay nothing further and retire. Once you retire, you permanently drop out of the betting and sacrifice any money you have already put into the game during that deal.

The amount you have put in at your turn to stay in the game depends on the current stake. It depends on whether you are playing blind or seen. Players who are seen have to bet twice as much as blind players to stay in the game. At the start of betting, the current stake is one unit. It is the amount that each player has to put in the pot as an ante.

If you’re playing blind, you have not looked at your cards; you must put in at least the current stake and not more than twice the current stake. The current stake for the next player is the amount that you have put in the game.

If you are a seen player, you must bet at least twice the current stake and not more than four times the current stake. The current stake for the next player becomes the amount that you are betting.

If you are playing blind, you must choose to look at your cards when your turn comes to bet. You then become a seen player, and then from that point onwards, you must bet at least twice the current stake. Otherwise, you must fold.
