t0t0t0,

You got a point there...
They should have tossed the tomatoes into the Mediterranean sea and the Ocean, and eventually it would have got to Africa! 08

On a more serious note, I understand that the tomatoes were rotten and over-ripe, but they could have donated them before they got in this condition. Africa is just an example, I'm sure that there are also poor and homeless people in Spain. Instead of just tossing the tomatoes they could have organized one big tomatoes based free buffet!

Link - That's the thing about donating what you perceive as waste. It's garbage to one party, so you think someone else can use it.

The cost to ship it may be up to five times the value of the thing itself... Never mind whether it will still be safe to consume once it gets there. Everybody on down the supply chain has to be on board for something to be "free".

Jimmy Johnson,

Like I said before, Africa was just an example.I'm sure that Spain also has poor people.
Instead of just tossing the tomatoes they could have made some tomato based dishes and serve it to the poor and to the tourist during a tomato based festival. With all those tomatoes they could have made the biggest tomato salad in the world and go in to the Guinness book of records.
