1) In 1990? Yeah, at his age, they probably would.
Even the short span of 30 years ago, humanity accepted that an 8 year old can occasionally be at home, alone, for hours at a time.
I was born in 1967. My mom started working full time around 3rd grade, so around 1976. From that point forward, I was home alone all day, every weekday, in the summer.
I SURVIVED!

#5 In Waterworld, they free dive down to the Denver Public Library, which is at an elevation of 5280'. However, from the library, you can clearly see Long's Peak to the west, which is 14,259'. That's about 9000' higher than the library, yet you can't see Long's Peak, or any other mountains, in the movie. Did he free dive to a depth of 9000' or did something happen to Long's Peak?
