This is the first picture we took of our bus the day we bought it. We drove from Orlando to Miami to pick it up. We had no idea what we were about to get ourselves into...
1
Gutting phase has begun.
2
Removing the chair rails was the most difficult part of the floor gutting phase. Robbie used an angle grinder to cut a slit about every 6 inches while I used a hammer to bang them out once they were cut. I'll post a video of him doing the cutting. This method was only used for the ones that we were not able to unbolt.
3
We lost count of the number of trailers full of scrap metal that we removed from our "empty" bus. If we had to guess, it would probably be somewhere around... 20!?! It just kept on coming!
4
Prior to framing, we sealed the wood (2×1) with polyurethane.
5
We used 3/4 in plywood for our subfloor. As you can imagine, the stairs were not fun at all... Robbie's face says it all.
6
Painting the outside. We chose white mainly for it absorbing the least amount of heat.
7
We installed 6 solar panels 360 watts a piece. They power eight 6 volt 315 AH batteries joined in a series to produce 12 volts. We can go days without any sun and still be fully functional including the fridge.
8
9
Everything electrical... tank monitors included. I remember how excited we were to see light turn on for the first time.
10
Ah, the bathroom. I just love these floors.
11
12
Finished bathroom.
13
Cedar ceilings. Oh, how wonderful it smelled during this part of the build.
14
For the brick wall behind the wood fireplace, we used individual half inch brick veneers.
15
Teamwork to make the dreams work!!
16
The kitchen. This was the area that I enjoyed designing the most.
17
Finished bedroom. Under the bed is a washer and dryer combo and the last drawer is a dual storage/step to get up on the bed. To the left of the drawers is an extra storage closet that will be closed-in eventually.
18
This is our slide-out pantry. Even though it's small, I like this better than our pantry at home!
19
Shortly after this picture, we were finally ready to leave on our adventure! We expect that it will take about 2 years give or take to complete our trip across the U.S and Canada.

We plan on visiting every state and can't wait to explore new places and meet new friends who love traveling just as much as we do!
