Kukur Tihar is a Hindu day of the dogs where people honor pups by offering garland and food to the animals. Hindus believe that dogs are Yamaraj’s (God of Death) messengers, and that they will win his favor by keeping the dogs in good health. Every dog - even those mangy strays - is included in the celebration.

Ok ok, it doesn’t generally happen until the second day of Diwali, which falls in October, but you know what? I’m going to throw my own mini Kukur Tihar because it’s never to early to appreciate a dog.
