Amazing photos taken during the construction of the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building is a 102-story landmark Art Deco skyscraper in New York City at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It stood as the world's tallest building for more than forty years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972.

I felt nervous even looking at these. These guys made it look like it was nothing. I have to wonder how many shots were framed in such a way so that any scaffolding was hidden, or if, indeed, these men were precariously dangling over the city like circus performers.

Been to 40 countries but the ESB is still my favourite spot in the world to visit. Guess the workers seldom looked down and/or had a lot of guts.

Looking through these photos has brought me to tears, but I am also very angry. How can people visit this building as if it's something so beautiful - and it is, but do you understand how much labor these men had to go through? With pay hundreds of times less than they deserved?
I hate the glory this is given.
