It's ironic isn't it, that the technological advancement of mankind has been measured in creating instruments of destruction.

The internet was created so the US defence department could securely communicate with it's branches around the world.
The development of atomic energy was purposed to end WW2.
Rocket propulsion was developed by the Nazis to deliver ordinances across vast distances.
What we know now as modern assembly lines was created by Hitler to more quickly build tanks, planes and missiles.
New developments in avation ie) B2 bomber has been to advance delivery of bombs to targets beyond the range and detection of radar and other warning systems.
Aerospace engineering was motivated to establish superiority over yet undeclared airspace over sovereign countries, ie) spy satellites and communication.
Military technology has trickled into society in order for the research and development of it to be viable ie) Jeep and Hummer brands, weapons, fabrics like gortex and kevlar, etc.
The development of technology such as drive by wire. heads up display, infra-red imaging, virtual reality, robotics, bionics, artificial intelligence, submarines, modern metals like titanium and platinum, medical advancements in artificial limbs, surgery, biological and chemical research, disease, and agricultural research - all motivated by military interests.

Third picture shows a Japanese torpedo hitting a ship, and several more in the water.

Torpedo hit can be seen in the 3rd ship from the lower left, you can see the plume of water coming above the ship along with the shock waves and torpedo tracks tracking out from the ship towards the upper left. Other torpedoes can be seen along the same track.
