It's from one of those "I was today years old when I learned..." memes. Supposedly, Gatorade bottles are designed to hold the bottle cap. Unfortunately, it didn't hold up when tested using US bottles.
One of the comments brings up the issue of sticking the cap into a spot on the bottle that picks up contaminants that you might not want in your mouth should you replace the cap later. Ew.
