#7 IBM 370/145, $14,950/mo for 112 KB of memory to $37,330/mo for 512 KB. 0.2 seconds for simple branch to 0.8 seconds for multiplication. 1.5 GB disc in 12 units each larger than a home refrigerator connected by 4 inch cables (under the floor). Card punches, card readers, card interpreters, 12" tapes additional cost. It only needs 3000 square feet to fit it all in. Did I mention the electrical bill for operation and cooling? Portable in just a few moving vans, setup in only a week or two.

A real blast from the past, from a age where you could have a smoke in the office and no-one thought it odd.

Obviously the work seemed hard because concentration was more difficult sometimes. I have worked a few offices over the years where the distractions were no less interesting, and visited a lot too.

I miss work.
