DC doesn't work for transmitting high power over long distances, but light bulbs don't care if the current is AC or DC. They work the same on either.

It's true about long distance transmission, gotta have AC
About light bulbs don't care:
Depends on the type of light bulb. Incandescent lamps don't care if it's AC or DC.
Florescent lamps have to be AC.
