I think they're all copying Freddy Mercury, Elton John and Madonna quite honestly... In all cases I have to agree with Jimmy Johnson - the best shows I've seen are the simple ones because the artists were TALENTED enough to captivate an audience without any fluff around it whatsoever.
It is much easier to WOW people than it is to move them.
