Gal Gadot was born on April 30, 1985 in Petah Tikva, Israel. She was raised in a neighboring city called Rosh HaAyin.
Her first job in high school was as a fryer at Burger King.
Her mother, Irit, was a teacher and her father, Michael Gadot, was an engineer. Both of her parents were born in Israel. Her dad is a sixth-generation Sabra, which is any Jew born in Israel.
In 2004, Gadot was crowned Miss Israel. Apparently she wasn't very into the whole beauty queen thing and didn't wear proper attire or make up to breakfast.
Gal has one sibling, a younger sister named Dana.
Gadot's maternal grandparents came from Europe. Her grandfather was was imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp and survived the Holocaust. Her grandmother left before the Nazi invasion.
Gal served two years in the Israeli Defense Forces as a combat trainer. She spent most of her time teaching calisthenics and gymnastics.
During her time in the service, she appeared in an issue of Maxim, which featured IDF as "the world's sexiest soldiers." Between the magazine spread and her time as Miss Israel, she caught the attention of modeling agencies and casting directors.
Gal then began a career in modeling. She's worked with major brands including Gucci, Captain Morgan, and Jaguar.
After her time in the military, Gadot enrolled at IDC Herziliya, an Israeli college. She began studying law and international relations.
In 2009, she landed the role of Gisele Tashar in the Fast & Furious franchise. The director liked that she was in the military and was knowledgable about weapons. She also did most of her own stunt work.
Even after her rise to fame, Gadot worked hard as a business owner. Gadot and her husband bought a hotel in Tel Aviv, where she would even come in to help change the sheets.
In Hebrew, her first name means "wave" and her last name means "riverbanks."
In 2013, she was cast as Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. This landed her a place in the DC universe and a starring role in Wonder Woman, which was already in the works.
To prepare for her role as Wonder Woman, Gadot did lots of martial arts training. This included sword fighting, capoeira, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She said this training was harder than anything she went through in Israeli Defense Forces.
Gadot had to reshoot many scenes for Wonder Woman while she was five months pregnant. A green cloth was placed over her stomach to edit out the baby bump.
She married Yaron Varsano, an Israeli real estate developer, back in 2008. The couple have two daughters, Maya and Alma.
The actress was considered for the role of Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy. She narrowly lost the part to Karen Gillan.
She's an advocate for women and girls around the world and has done work with the United Nations.
Her last name is actually pronounced Gah-dote with a hard "t."
