Hollister is famous for the riot in 1947 which was the basis for the 1954 film The "Wild One" with Marlon Brandon. The movie is the source of the famous quote:
Mildred: Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?
Johnny: Whadda you got?
The town is also the site of the Hollister Motorcycle Rallies around July Fourth, the west coast version of Sturgis.
