Obviously, the hippo didn't attack to save the wildebeast (not antelope) - it attacked because a) it had a juvenile and no mother animal will tolerate ANY predator nearby if they can help it, and b) hippos are just mean bastards.

FYI I'd wager that wildebeast was the victim of some other predator within 24 hours.

Good calls. Judging by the direction it was looking, it was charging the wildebeest. The croc just happened to be in its way.

Indeed. You can see by the way it's hoof is upside down when it walks that its right hand leg is ruined for the rest of its inevitably short life. If a predator doesn't get it, infection will.
