RottweileR,
not surprised, another foreigner to America making some dumb ass comment about America. But, you're right most people working in the capital of one of the most powerful nations in the world have the time to stop and enjoy this beautiful music. Wait, or maybe they have somewhere to be? something to do? Even if they didn't have anything to do, maybe they don't like that particular type of music? Must be stupid, maybe in Europe or whatever continent you're from. Here in America we like to think of opinions as being subjective. As in to each his own. O yeah and one last thing. Check your english grammar buddy. whole world knows that Americans IS the most stupid nation in the world. Americans = plural. is = singular. should be: whole world knows that Americans ARE the most stupid nation. Way to prove a point hot shot.

It is not so much the artist, but I feel it was more the selection of music he chose to play. Something at more upbeat and possibly something that at least appeared to be more difficult would have gathered more attention.

why would you call someone stupid for not noticing it was Bell??? No one expected to see anyone famous at the spot he was in especially the time of day he was there. I would say that anyone who noticed had better than average ability to notice things around them . In other words you are smart for noticing not stupid for not noticing.

I am familiar with him as well I have some of his CD's I guarantee if I walked by him in that setting I would have missed him as well and my IQ has been tested 5 different times and I was above 140 every time.

this is about the power of observation not a measure of how smart or dumb one is.

I will admit however that I am a horrible speller and not much better at grammar so you could say that I am stupid because of that, but you would be wrong. My officially tested IQ puts me pretty well up there but if you did not know that some would make the case that I am stupid the same way some did about this Post.

This piece is ruined when you only hear 5 second intervals of it. Bust in on it in the middle and it just sounds like noise. Another song would have been appropriate since they only hear a small fraction of it as they walk through the doors.

jsphwllr,
Check your capitalization. In America we capitalize letters at the beginning of sentences. You failed to do so with almost every sentence in your post. You also separated "dumbass" in to 2 words without a hyphen, which is an epic fail. It's either "dumbass" or "dumb-ass". Hyphens are your friends. Use them. It's also bad form to start a sentence with "but", but you managed to fuck that one up too, didn't you? There's also an "h" in "oh yeah". Very few people have perfect English, including you. So quit talking down to people as if you're superior when your language skills aren't much better, if any. Also, not everyone in America agrees with you on opinions being subjective. Some of us believe that there's fact & there's fiction. Opinions can be wrong & most of yours appear to be that way.

Americans is the stupidest? Funny considering that despite our being so stupid, and without even knowing where you are from, your nation is inferior to the U.S. in wealth, power, influence, modern culture, higher learning institutions, standard of living and a whole host of other things I am leaving out. In all likelihood, your "freedoms" and governmental order is directly the result of our revolution, constitution, bureaucracy and institutions created over 200 years ago. How is it in the rear cabin? I know, begin your rant about the decline of American influence in response. Keep in mind, 1. if I had to play any nations cards for the future starting today, it would be the United States over all others. 2. Its not the decline of America, its the rise of the rest, most of whom are following the direction given by the U.S. since our founding and are simply growing faster than us while we still grow. Growth at the top is always slower. "Dumb-ass."

I live in D.C., and although Mr. Bell is a recognized "expert", he is not doing anything (at least in the sound clip of this video) that is much better than any other street performer. You can walk down the street and hear many talented musicians (violin, guitar, accordion, sax, drums, etc...) who are able, albeit briefly, to hold the attention of people in a rush to get to their destination. All that this "experiment" shows is that Joshua Bell is not able to connect with this audience.
