Mate, girls like that make me want to scream. And you know what? Speaking as a larger girl, your choice to spend time with the big girl (admittedly in part to really piss the think one off) gives you major points as far as I'm concerned. I hope that someday you meet a chick who deserves you.
Cheers from Adelaide, South Australia

It's funny because I used to go out with my girlfriend to the clubs and would let her get free drinks from guys then walk up and thank them for getting it for her. The look on so many faces was priceless. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and take your advice.

Dead on the money .... Oh Hell Yes! ... there are 3 things a girl is NOT going to get when she asks me to buy her a drink #1 - A drink ... #2 - My respect ... #3 - Even the slighest chance to get to know me, and I am a reallly nice guy. 21

I know some that frown on it, but I like my boyfriend to buy dinner. I try and get him things too every once in a while. One day I would like to be a simi stay at home mom... While still doing photo. I would not require some stranger to buy a drink. In fact I would be a little uncomfortable because I know what they are thinking. Its not a date. I also don't just date. I date for the person not for sex. Not that I am prude ;) haha. But if you are looking for the real thing its not gonna be in a bar. Try work or school or friends. Good luck finding a girl with more self respect then to even suggest a drink would equal sex. haha

Silvia,
Silvia,
Silvia,
I know! The fat girl? He is a douche at heart. haha, guess I over looked that.

You know...
This is just EPIC and 100% true.
I was a bouncer at bars for years and what is explained here is precisely how it happens time and time again...

I have given up on "the game" and also do not fall for the "buy me a drink" game.

Superb job on this story.

@ yamum

Errrm - missed the point a bit maybe??

He was not saying that by buying the 'Fat Girl' a drink he wanted to get in to her pants. If you actually read the document, he was saying that he values the conversations and intellectual stimulation as much as, or even more than, sexual gratification.

A lot of girls in the UK do this too. In fact, considering we have a younger drinking age, they pick up the 'tricks' at a younger age and many hone this skill way before the US age of 21. I find it rather imposing when I approach a bar and find a number of young ladies eyeing me up to see if I will buy them a drink. Many of them are not even carrying a purse, so how they would get a drink without a desperate man to fund it I don't know!

In my youth I used to try my hand as a bit of a player, and one of the rules I had for myself was 'Never buy a girl a drink to initiate a liaison'. This was purely because I did not see sex as a transaction but as an experience or encounter. Spending £30 on a girl over the course of an evening for a chaste peck on the cheek and the ubiquitous 'Good night then, thanks...' was galling. Prostitutes are cheaper and would not mess you around as much!

Guys - don't buy a girl a drink if you only want to sleep with her. If she wants to initiate the conversation, all well and good, but offering alcohol is the losers way in... Have something interesting to say or a good anecdote is far better. It works, and to believe that perhaps you would have to see a picture of me. I am certainly no oil painting, slightly overweight and not the most fashionable of gents, but had no trouble talking to ladies.

As for buying the larger lady a drink, whether the initial thought was of putting the hottie in her place, or even a sort of pity for the girl whose friends deserted her for the free drinks, the outcome was a good one all round. The author invited her to join his group of friends, introduced her to a companion, and made her feel more than the wallflower she may be accustomed to being.

And if the Hottie was annoyed, all the better for that!

I see a few posts here highlighting your unwillingness to sugar coat your descriptions of the people present at the bar and in the room next to you. Hooraa for not falling for the honey trap, good on you my man!

Just because you (the writer) have used words like "big girl" and "open minded friend" they (commentators) can then go off on a rant about your descriptions of the people present at the bar that night.

Just because he had the morals to stand up to his convictions doesn't necessarily mean that he has to adhere to being super sensitive and politically correct in how he chooses to share his story with you, i see it as a complete waste of time to point out his lack tact, in a hope that the writer will change his wording and descriptions from now on and in further posts, AND a waste of my time having to post this! Afterall this is his story and he can right it how he wants to.

Internet freedom of speech people. Get with it or get offended!

Man you are a fuckin legend. I couldn't be arsed reading all the comments but i'm guessing that theres a lot of guys out there that share the same idea. I have found that usually refussing a girl a drink, due to the fact that you believe in your own morals, can actually make you hotter or more attractive to women if you explain why. Ive had this belief as long as i can remember drinking(irish by the way, so its been awhile) but haven't had the verbal skills as yourself to express my thoughts on the matter. Personally i can spot these women a mile off, but unfortunately resorted to humilating them physically and not verbally. You know when women think that they have the god given right to barge through a dance floor because there hot...well next time just stick out your foot and look the other way...sounds bad i know but fuck it...they might learn from there mistakes...

I have to say, I have never gone bar hoping for women. But if I ever decide to do it, this will definitively be my policy. Kudos Man. You should write a book on dating. Didn't you say you are an arts major?

You never ever ever spend money on a girl unless you are already having sex with her. This policy sorts the girls who are trying to use you from the ones who are honestly interested in you. Either she likes you or she doesn't.

Not all girls, expect guys to buy them drinks. I myself pay for my own drinks, all the time, even if the guy offers. I'm independent, and I know fully well that most people my age are also broke university students. That money is best spent elsewhere. But sadly I know a lot of girls (mainly the hot self absorbed skinny ones) that only go to the bars to get free drinks....

I'm a female and I love this post! I'm glad you have self-respect. We frequently talk about douchebags but the number of douchebaguettes is astounding :) Yet, with females it's sometime harder to identify. They don't always have orange encrusted makeup or continuously pose for pictures whilst making the kissy face. Sometimes it takes a 30-45 minute conversation for them to reveal their ugliness.

The fact that you reached out to the other girl shows that you have a good heart. Thanks for being an intelligent, kind, and self-respecting guy! I wish more guys had higher expectations.

Any girl expecting a free drink because you talked to her is doing what I call trolling. That's not a "cute possibility" and it isn't just women that behave like that. Predators are both in female and male form. Here's the deal, as a self respecting women probably wouldn't allow a man I didn't know to buy me a drink at a bar unless it was an unusual circumstance. I probably wouldn't go out with a guy because he simply offered me a drink, nor would I probably give a guy who offered me a drink my phone number unless there was an unusual circumstance that would cause me to trust him to be a potential friend (e.g. he knows my best friend). As a women I don't allow men to buy me drinks unless I believe it to be a completely "free" offer and as a woman I have bought a drink for a man because I have believed it to be a completely "free" compliment as well. If you're looking to find a "real girl" with potential and possibility for a "relationship" what are you doing in a bar, and why? Yikes! The fact that you write a public letter complaining about women looks to me like you're still slumming it hoping to find a star in the garbage can. Good luck with the "women are biaches, to us poor men" routine. You won't find any sympathy from this gal. Many a guy has proved to be a real slime with/without the drink! Gentlemen need really never speak of such things. Let's just say while I understand you're reasoning you'd definitely be a "no thanks for the drink" you're "if there isn't a chance in heck" attitude leaves this girl cold. And to the guy who bought me a drink in the airport because I helped him gather his bag as the latch gave...thanks for the refreshing lack of attitude, the drink was great and the lack of strings nice...i appreciate that you appreciated my efforts. Unlike disgruntled here. Not all men are A$$es not all women are trolling...a downer post and rather stupid indeed! Preaching to the choir, why don't you! Loser!
