Ummm, he hit a rock. How hard is that to figure out? Smashed front end and a large rock. Seriously people, this is not rocket science. The question is, what in the hell was he doing driving out there in the first place?

Judging by the shadows, it's either right before sunset or right after sunrise. I'm guessing the latter. He was probably drunk and driving across the desert at night.
