that first picture is photoshopped. There is no bridge over it. But this used to scare the crap out of me when I was a little kid. The locals call it the glory hole! I always was afraid of swimming in this lake!

@14 Kinda obvious if you think about it. It's there for exactly the same reason the overflow outlet is there on a sink or bath. If the reservoir gets too full it automatically flows out the spillway.
