#4 it is a war memorial, people sometimes forget that Russia played a very big part in the victory in WW2 and probably lost more men and women than anyone.

They don't forget, it's just mitigated by the fact that for all the people they lost fighting the Nazis, the Soviets were arguably more brutal.
Killed by the Soviets themselves: at least 50 million vs 20 million lost fighting the Nazis.
"Dyadkin estimated that the USSR suffered 56 to 62 million "unnatural deaths" during that period, with 34 to 49 million directly linked to Stalin. In “Europe A History,” British historian Norman Davies counted 50 million killed between 1924-53, excluding wartime casualties."
