I've heard and seen pics of many of these before; I don't think any of them are fake.

My understanding is that cross species can be born, though rarely they survive for long, and that they have never been able to reproduce. Can anyone confirm this or provide specifics?

they are not fake :>
They are between species that have separated in the evolution not so long ago ;) Like the tiger and the lion. Their offsprings can live full lives, but usually they are not capable of reproducing themselves. If they wood, then we would call them breeds (like dog breeds) but not species.

scientists do find bones which DNA has some neanderthalian genes in them, but in the living human population there is no, so the half humans half cave man's were sterile.

I am surprised a bit - where I live we have to learn things like this and how these "mixes" are called in the 8-9th grade biology class (depends on the school). For egzample: male donkey + a female horse = mule. It's a very good way to teach of evolution.
