Gram for gram, and for the invested resources to production ratio: insects are more nutritious than traditional meats, more economic, and a lot more reliable. Insects are a common staple food in much of the world. But, they don't taste as good - hence the sugar.

I have had a the sucker with the worm... it was not that good.

Apparently, a lot of roasted and deep fried insects taste like different kinds of nuts.
