at least in Germany 1 of the main problems (imho) are some authorities, that threatens parents with severe punishments for even looking angry at their children...

The parents feel themselves forced to overprotect their children due to that...

And I am an 80's kid too :)

Riding my bike, across town. Walking out in the woods, all day. Seeing how fast a bike could go down a steep hill. No helmet...ever!
