All of the things below have become so common that we often forget just how amazing they are. At the moment we have easy access to all of them but it wasn't always that way. Don't take these things for granted, but do take a second to appreciate how awesome they are.

#2 The United States officially switched to the metric system in 1975: "Congress passed the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 "to coordinate and plan the increasing use of the metric system in the United States". Voluntary conversion was initiated, and the United States Metric Board (USMB) was established for planning, coordination, and public education."

It's just that the United States can't MANDATE people use the metric system, and for most people in most uses, it's no better, so they don't.
