In other words, Texas is 2nd to California in GDP, population, # of University Students, oldest trees (one tree in CA is 4,000 years old), biggest trees, highest and lowest altitudes, longest coastline, highest waves for surfing, and quite a few other things.

Alaska is 2.5 times larger than Texas, that means if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would become the 3rd largest state. Alaska is 1/5th the land mass of the 48 contiguous states and if you were to lay it atop the lower 48 states the Aleutian Islands would reach southern California, the top of Alaska (north slope) would cover the great lakes and the Alaskan 'pan handle' would reach all the way down to the Florida keys.
Not to mention Alaska's vast oil reserves as well.
