And 1 may be true for viruses, but not for bacteria induced colds/infections. In those cases, the cold actually strengthens the bacterial cell wall, which gives our immune system a hard time to fight them. And since a big chunk of our body temperature is lost through the top of our heads, wearing a head keeps our body temperature from dropping and given the beasties the cool environment they become stronger in.
