#2 - employers are doing themselves a disservice. Recent studies indicate that cubicles are less effective than an open bull pen environment because it isolates people, limiting the interaction, stimulation, and exchange of ideas. If you've seen pictures of places like Google they have open environments that encourage people to work together, not separately. There are quiet places for people who prefer it and more interactive places. And people move between the places as they need to.
