We've all dated a psycho, I have anyway, and you have to deal with them accordingly. If you split get your stuff out then, not go to work and think it'll all be intact when you get home.

Actually it's not that bad as it seems. Don't get me wrong, those DVDs are pretty much usless... except for one thing. Because of fact that when you buy game, you don't buy CD/DVD but LICENSE. As such you can demand replacment for your damaged media because you own much more valuable RIGHT for game. For example, if you own floppy disk with, let's say, Secret of Monkey Island. It's guaranteed that after 15 years (+/- but I'm to lazy to check) is probably unredable (apart from fact, that you still use floppy drive). But you can ask LucasArts to download it from them for free. Again, you have to prove you have the rights to this game, so DVD's and damaged floppys are proofs.

It's the same as with torn bill: as long as you have most of it, it's still worth it's nominal and have right to exchange it in bank.

If the media was damaged in a freak accident over which you had no control, then they MAY replace it. But, since it is fairly visible brute force was applied, no chance.
If you do not believe me, go to a games shop with hammer, buy game, smash game, then ask for replacement. They may laugh, but wont give it to you.
