It only worked because you know it's a dental health ad. Why would you look anywhere else but a mouth on a dental ad? If it was an earring ad would you look at a coat button on the person wearing the earring? No, and same case here. You know what you're supposed to look at. In real life you'd definitely notice a person missing an ear before you notice he's got a dark spot on his teeth, or has 10 fingers on one hand when shaking your hand.. come on
