Bajau - sea gypsies (10 pics)

Bajau is an ethnic group that lives in Malaysia and consists of several closely related indigenous groups.
They are often called “sea gypsies” because of their nomadic seafaring lifestyle.
Despite many of them last years have settled on the land, in some regions there are communities of families that are still living off the sea without potable water and electricity, and landing only to bury their dead.

Most of them actually live along the seas bordering Indonesia and the Philippines. A friend of mine used to work for a volunteer organization along those areas. Surprisingly, Coca-Cola is cheaper there than potable water. Some of the well off families have sat dishes to watch TV for limited periods, mostly for weather updates, dubbed mexiacan telenovelas, WWE and yes...MTV
