actually they are really amazing animals...creepy looking, yes, but very peaceful, ancient, and we use their blood in thousands of our medicines (without killing them...pharmaceutical companies just take some blood ans set them free) they make medicine for blood transfusions, diabetes, hemophiliacs and so many others. If you ever see one that needs help, just grab the side and set it back in the water, they wont hurt you, promise. and you never know....one day that horseshoe crab may one day save you, lol
just dont step on them with bare feet, that would hurt you both, lol

As a kid these would be littered all over the west side jersey shore. They like the delaware river side. We use to walk up and down the beach, grab the ones that are upside down and toss them back into the ocean. It was fun and as kids are parents use to tell us that they are rare in the rest of the world. I didn't believe them but judging by everyones comments i guess many people don't know about them.
Oh and don't kill them, they are harmless.
