The Nazis had all but lost to the Russians. US troops involvement in WW2 was the "johny come lately" taking credit for what would have happened anyway. You know, after the British, French, Polish, Canadians, and then the Russians had already been in it for years.

Oh yeah, the Russians had Japan too, but they figured enough of their people were already dead. They let Japan go to the US Navy as payback for Pearl Harbor. There are historical references you can find online where the Russians and US military negotiated who would be present when the Japanese surrendered. But really, the US wasn't ballsy enough to fight it out anyway... They used the atomic bomb on civilians to wrap up the tail-end of WW2.

Since I'm going there... You really shouldn't take credit for anything you had no part of. It's like saying you're all that for being born (like a white supremist). You can brag about something you actually accomplished, and even then, you should still shut the fuck up. WW2 vets don't piss and moan, do they? It's just pussies that cry to their mommies coming back from manufactured wars ie) Vietnam and Iraq.
