I'm sure this is much better than my crappy american style asphalt shingle roof. It's a roof and insulation all in one.

velio70, the roofs are also firetraps and breed vermin. How'd you like to have your house burn down because you don't have asphalt roofs and have rats in the attic? 03

I hope they at least treat them with a fire retardant. Next step would be to make an artificial material that can be used instead of dried grass.

it is. there are not many master thatchers left in the country of england and it is people like these who own these houses that keep them in some semblance of business.

I lived in a thatched cottage when I was young, it was nice and cosy, but a lot of spiders!!
The best thatch is made from Norfolk Reeds, and the budget thatch is straw they still grow the reeds, and here in England about 1000 houses a year are still built with thatch.
