Most cats don't like water, but they can swim when they have to.
Lots of wild big cats will swim to catch fish or cool off. It's not uncommon to see footage of tigers swimming on TV. Domestic cats don't like to get wet, probably because their fur gets waterlogged and they can become cold quickly. There's a breed of cat called the Turkish Van, however, that is known for actually liking water and swimming. What's interesting is the Turkish Van doesn't have the same undercoat as other cat breeds, and has more waterproof fur.
