Queen Victoria was a beautiful, vivacious, fun loving young lady until her husband, Prince Albert died in 1861 when she was 42. There is on portrait in the Met in NYC when she was 18 and she was very good looking. The camera was invented just after his death so all her pictures show a dowdy old lady in perpetual mourning.
