About a month ago some bastards stole the headlights from my car. Fortunately, they left me the wheels. The owners of these cars were not so lucky.

Wonder who they sell the luxury car wheels to. It's not like people who can afford Bentley's go on the black market to get their rims. They go straight to the dealer.

They probably sell them cheap to anyone that has a car that has the same bolt pattern.

mags like those for cars can run into the thousands in retail. they can still get a few hundred for them even if they're hot. the rims are valuable as well too. you saw a lift jack in one of the pictures? those wheels will pay for several of those jacks.

car alarms are useless. no one even listens or are alerted by them anymore. electrify the whole car- stun gun effect. Can't tune them out. The scream the perp wells will be loud enough to ward off the bastards :82: :79:

That's why I have a sensor that signals to my dedicated paging alarm. It works like a carpenter's level. Beyond a certain level of angle when parked, it sends a signal to my pager.

It's not just the wheels that have value. High performance cars can have tires that are worth $2000 a piece.

Jimmy Johnson, $2000 give or take a few hundred for a set of four but not a a piece.

Like someone mentioned above, most of the those wheels end up on different cars with similar bolt patterns. And if they don't fit people will use adapters. You see VW guys running Bentley and Lambo wheels all the time.

Some of the thieves are careful enough to leave something to protect the car without the wheels... some of them just take them without any precaution.

What about manners? :13:

GI -Joe - My rear tires are 19/30/295 Toyo Proxies. Toyo isn't making Proxes anymore. Their current ultra-performance tire is the R1, but it has a softer compound better suited for the track.

My rear tires cost $1000 a piece in 2003. My fronts are more standard sized at 18/35/245, but they're still worth $500 a piece. I've only run them for about 10,000 kms so to someone that wants those tires, he'll pay whatever he has to pay.

Cars like the Viper GTS runs 20"x13" wheels. When you go to these larger diameter wheels, they'll only fit very specific cars. Tire makers aren't required to produce ultra-performance street/race tires in every configuration. Ultra-performance street tires wider than 355 mm are for even fewer vehicles.

Tire makers have to see the economics of producing such tires by charging more.

I think I know something about it, thanks.

Jimmy, I don't know why you paid that much for your tires and I'm not saying you didn't. The thing is, proxies in that size are only around $450 in 19/30/295 and your fronts around $250. So you're looking at around $1400 before install. What kind of car do you drive by the way?

Jimmy, it's "Toyo Proxes, not "Proxies".

and you paid way too much for them.

buset - I use "Proxies" in the plural, because "Proxes" is the name of the tire series.

The plural of "Proxes" could be defined with an apostrophe after the "s", but that also makes the noun possessive. Which seems less correct to me - certain syntax in English is not absolute.

BTW - What's left of Toyo Proxes tires are cheaper because rubber degrades, and tire distributors discounting to unload their older inventory.

Does nobody use locking wheel nuts? Or do the thieves know how to get around those now?
